Phirnis/Katarrhaktes devours the listener with nine mazes of broken electronics. Each piece is a labyrinth in and of itself, formed from encrustations of raw data manipulated into a semblance of recognisable pattern. But, pattern is nothing more than an illusion, a dependency on the understandable and a fear of chaos. Chaos, however, is not necessarily dark; it is merely the opposite of logic, the counterpart to order. All art draws from both order and chaos. In the same way, a labyrinth can both be a meditative centre or an unsolvable puzzle.

Labyrinths is Phirnis/Katarrhaktes' first fully collaborative LP. Each member created a foundation audio layer along with a title for the piece. These were then exchanged. One additional audio layer was added and the original tracks were manipulated. This process repeated until we both felt each track was complete.
